Simple Troubleshooting Method for DC High Voltage Generator Faults
1. When the power switch is turned on, the digital display on the control box does not light up. Please check the power connection and all the fuses. If any fuse is damaged, please replace it with a new one according to the amperage indicated next to the fuse holder.
2. If the power switch of the DC high-voltage generator is turned on, the digital display shows that it is on, but the high-voltage indicator light (green light) does not light up, and thus the high voltage cannot be increased.
1) If the “zero return” indicator is on, it indicates that the zero return was not achieved after the test. In this case, turn the high-voltage output adjustment knob and the fine-tuning knob counterclockwise until the “zero return” indicator goes out. Once you are back at the zero position, you can then increase the high voltage.
2) When the “Other” indicator is on, there are two possible scenarios: 1) Ground protection; 2) Short-circuit protection.
a. It is possible that the grounding wire is not properly connected, or the ground wire is not reliably grounded. Please ensure that the reliable ground wire for the DC high-voltage generator is properly connected, turn off the power supply, and then restart.
b. It is possible that the cable connecting the control box and the high-pressure tower is not properly connected. If this is the case, reconnect the cable, turn off the power supply, and restart the system; or the welding joints at both ends of the cable may have come loose, which can also cause this problem. In this case, re-weld the welding joints at both ends of the cable, turn off the power supply, and restart the system.
c. It is possible that a wire joint inside the DC high-voltage generator control box has come loose and disconnected. Please re-weld it, turn off the power supply, and then restart the device.
3. Everything is normal, but during the process of reaching the rated output voltage, a protection mechanism was triggered.
1) The fault indicator shows that the “overcurrent” light is on.
a. The test sample is short-circuited or has an excessive leakage current;
b. When dealing with large-capacitance loads, the voltage increase is too rapid. Shut off the power supply, restart the device, and reduce the voltage increase rate.
2) The fault indicates that the “overvoltage” indicator light is on. The overvoltage protection setting knob of the DC high-voltage generator is not at the maximum position. Please rotate it clockwise to the maximum position, then turn off the power supply and restart the device.
4. When the test sample experiences a short circuit under high voltage, due to the large short-circuit current, all the fault indicator lights may light up. This is normal. Please resolve the test sample’s fault and then restart it.
5. After the test sample has been repaired and the fault indicator light is still on, the high voltage cannot be reached. The power switch also serves as the reset switch for faults. Please turn off the power switch of the DC high-voltage generator, restart it, and then the high voltage can be reached.
6. If you notice significant fluctuations in the voltage meter readings, please check the plugs at both ends of the connecting cable, the shielding mesh heads, and the center shielding wire heads to ensure they are not loose or disconnected. If they are disconnected, please re-weld them.
