Power testing equipment all have corresponding operation procedures. Operating according to the correct procedures can ensure better test results. Now let’s take a look at the specific content of the operation methods for the cable fault testing system instruments, as well as the testing steps of the cable fault testing system.
1. Cable Fault Testing Procedures
(1) During the cable fault detection process in the cable fault testing system, the testers not only need to be familiar with the performance and operation methods of the equipment, but also must first determine the nature of the cable fault in order to adopt appropriate working methods and testing methods. First, use an ohmmeter or multimeter to measure the insulation resistance between each phase and the ground at one end of the cable. Based on the resistance value, determine whether it is a low-resistance short circuit or open circuit, or a high-resistance flashover fault.
(2) When the resistance value of the cable fault testing system is lower than 100 ohms, it is considered a low-resistance fault; if it is between 0 and several tens of ohms, it is a short-circuit fault; if the resistance value is extremely high (hundreds of megohms and thousands of ohms) and there is a momentary discharge phenomenon during high-voltage testing, it is an open-circuit or break-line fault. Whether it is a break-line fault or not, the cable terminal can be connected to a universal multimeter to measure the resistance value of the two phases short-circuited at the beginning to confirm it. Such faults can be directly determined using the low-pulse method.
(3) When the resistance value is very high (hundreds of megohms and thousands of ohms) and there is a momentary discharge phenomenon during high-voltage testing, this type of fault is generally called a flashover fault. It can be determined using the DC high-voltage flash measurement method of the cable fault testing system.
(4) The resistance value of a high-resistance fault is higher than that of a low-resistance fault. This can be determined during the high-voltage experiment of the cable fault testing system using the direct current high-voltage flash measurement method.
(5) The cable fault testing system conducts a rough test in a certain manner, and then proceeds to the precise location. If necessary, the cable path needs to be identified, and the length or distance of the cable should be measured.
The above are the detailed operation steps for the cable fault testing system. I believe everyone has gained an understanding of the operation of electrical testing equipment.
