The difference between the operation case of the test transformer and the operation console

The operation box and operation console of the test transformer are essentially of the same type of equipment. Both are dedicated devices that provide adjustable power for the test transformer and implement control. Their functions and principles are the same, with the main differences lying in capacity, volume, and application scenarios. In simple terms, the box-type device is small in size and is suitable for test scenarios with smaller capacities; the desktop device is larger in size and is mainly used for test scenarios with larger capacities and higher voltages.
Core Differences
The operation box is generally used for test transformers with capacities of 5kVA – 10kVA or less. The input power is mostly AC 220V single-phase electricity, and the voltage regulation method is mainly manual. There are also options for electric or intelligent types. It adopts a box structure, has a small volume, and is portable. The core label can be summarized as low power and portable.
The operation console is suitable for test transformers with capacities of 10kVA, 20kVA or above. The input power is mostly AC 380V two-phase or three-phase electricity. The voltage regulation methods include manual, electric, and intelligent types. In large-capacity scenarios, electric regulation is more energy-efficient. It adopts a desktop or cabinet structure, has a large volume, and is usually equipped with casters for mobility. The core label is large power, fixed or mobile.
Core Functions and Operating Logic
Whether it is the operation box or the operation console, the core functions are completely the same. By grasping the following key points, you can clearly understand the usage logic:
Core Function
To provide continuous adjustable input voltage for the test transformer, thereby controlling the output voltage on the high-voltage side and meeting the test requirements.
Main Functions
Both have safety protection functions such as zero position startup, overcurrent protection, and withstand voltage timing, which can effectively ensure the safety of equipment and personnel during the test.
Basic Operating Procedure
1. Preparation: Set the handle of the voltage regulator to zero, and according to the specific test requirements, set the overcurrent protection value and withstand voltage time in advance to ensure that the parameters are in line with the test standards.
2. Start the voltage rise: After pressing the start button, rotate the handle of the voltage regulator clockwise at a uniform speed for voltage rise operation. During this process, closely monitor the voltage meter reading to ensure a stable voltage rise speed and avoid sudden voltage increases.
3. Timing and voltage drop: When the voltage reaches the specified value for the test, start the timing function. After the timing is completed, first slowly rotate the handle of the voltage regulator counterclockwise to zero position, then press the stop button and cut off the power supply. Special attention should be paid: If conducting DC tests or testing large-capacity test samples, after the test, it is necessary to discharge the sample first to prevent the risk of electric shock.
Protection Mechanism
During the test, if overvoltage, breakdown of the test sample, or short circuit occur, resulting in overcurrent, the relays inside the equipment will immediately act, quickly cut off the power supply, and issue an audible and visual alarm to immediately terminate the test and protect the equipment from damage, while ensuring the safety of the operator.
Equipment Selection Method
Equipment selection can be completely determined based on the capacity of the test transformer. The specific selection suggestions are as follows:
If the capacity of the test transformer is 10kVA or less and there is a requirement for equipment portability, and it needs to be moved for testing in different locations, choosing the operation box can meet the requirements.
If the capacity of the test transformer is 10kVA or above (such as 20kVA, 50kVA and larger capacities), the operation box cannot meet the load requirements, and must choose the operation console.
Upgrade Suggestions: If the budget is sufficient, or if you pursue a higher level of operation automation, you can choose an intelligent control console. This type of equipment supports digital parameter setting, one-click voltage rise, automatic timing return to zero, and other functions, which can significantly simplify the operating process, improve test efficiency and data accuracy.
